The Color Room in Wentzville Unveils Its 3rd Expansion

On July 28th, guests who walked through the doors at The Color Room were treated to a newly remodeled and expanded salon, retail spa, and skin care center—the 3rd expansion since opening our doors in 2013!

"Our new space was designed with our guests in mind," owner Toni Peanick told her followers on Instagram when she showed off parts of the renovation with a short video walk-through. "A place where you can feel beautiful . . . forget about the day-to-day BS and relax."

If you haven't been to The Color Room since the remodel, you're in for a treat! Here's a quick Q&A with Toni to tell you a little more about the renovation and what to expect when you make your next appointment.

Question: Who designed the remodel? Did you have a hand in it?

Toni: Absolutely! I had a clear vision of what I wanted the expansion and remodel to look like from the start. I knew from day one that the space needed a romantic and earthy vibe, but that still felt very modern. When you step into the new space, you'll see florals and greenery everywhere. It's literally dripping from the ceiling—and I love it!

But having a vision doesn't mean it comes to life on its own. I am so grateful to have worked with top-rated, quality companies. Amanda Ahrens of Double A Interiors executed my vision so beautifully and, of course, JP3 Kitchen and Bath in Wentzville, who was also an investor and co-inventor of the space. Everyone on the JP3 team worked day and night to make this extreme makeover happen as quickly as it did.

Oh, and I can't say enough good things about our loyal TCR staff. These ladies agreed to shut down the salon for an entire week to execute the final push to completion.

Question: What motivated you to expand and build the new space?

Toni: The business has expanded exponentially over the last nine years. I started with two employees and now employ 30 people. We simply outgrew the space. We needed more room to work and more room to give our guests the salon and spa experiences they deserve.

The new space makes it easier and more efficient for the team to perform their jobs. We now have 14 hair stations and five shampoo bowls. We also have five skincare rooms, including an IV drip room and an injectables room. Our staff has more room to move and our guests more room to relax.

Question: Tell us about the retail space expansion. What do you call it?

Toni: It's terrific! We call it the beauty boutique, which houses our hair care and skin care tools, and, of course, our two Top 100 L'Oréal Professional Salons awards for 2020 and 2021. But seriously, we needed a retail space overhaul. The Color Room carries three haircare lines, two skincare lines, and one makeup line, and our old retail space wasn't adequate to display our products how we wanted to. Our products were in the front corner along two short walls. Now we have an entire wall of custom-built, gorgeous white cabinets with seven display areas that each have four shelves. We [the staff] have each caught ourselves saying, "If we were hair, we'd live here!"

Where the retail products used to be, that's now our new skin care center. We installed the same custom-built white cabinetry in that area, where you'll find your favorite ZO and Epionce skincare products along with our GLO makeup line.

Question: What is the most surprising question you get asked about the expansion?

Toni: Our floors—that's the most surprising question. People want to know where our floors came from. I don't blame people for asking. They're amazing!

Question: And the answer?

Toni: Troy Flooring Center in Troy, MO. Also, people are really curious about our paint and trim colors. So, the trim color is Jasper, and the walls are Faint Coral, both colors from Sherwin Williams.

Question: What was your ultimate goal with the remodel and expansion? And do you think you achieved it?

Toni: Guest comfort was our main objective when designing this space. I've said it time and time again: The guest experience must always take precedence. We want you to feel at home when you walk into The Color Room.

This space isn't our space; it's YOUR space. We tried to make everything perfect, so your worries are checked at the door. We can't make the real world go away forever, but we can for a little while when you get a soothing scalp massage or relax during a facial.

Question: So, is this it? No more remodels or future expansions?

Toni: Well, history has a way of repeating itself, right? So, I'd bet on bigger and better things in the future.

Question: Maybe a second location?

Toni: Maybe. That might be something we've got in the works. Stick around and see, right? All I know is I dreamt about a successful salon and spa company 20 years ago in Mr. Sipple's math class, and I live that dream every day. I'm so grateful to the community that's given The Color Room the opportunity and room to grow!
