Stick around for a moment and discover the eyelash extension techniques our lash artists apply to help you get those movie-star lashes you've always wanted.

What Are Eyelash Extensions?

Don't confuse lash extensions with false eyelashes (gasp). Lash extensions are far superior and last longer. They’re safer and less irritating too. Extensions are semi-permanent and constructed from the following types of fibers:

  • Silk

  • Faux mink

  • Synthetic fibers

Lash artists apply the extensions to each lash, strand by strand, using a specially formulated adhesive material that doesn't damage your natural lashes.

At The Color Room, our lash artists apply two kinds of lash extensions, classic and hybrid.

Which technique is right for you? The answer depends on your lash goals.

Classic Eyelash Extensions: Laid Back, Traditional, and Natural

Do you prefer a natural lash look? Classic eyelash extensions are a crowd favorite because of their unpretentious nature. They’re a great option for lash newbies and don’t bring any unnecessary drama to the party. Wearers get a beautiful, natural look that wears well at the office, over Zoom, or your best friend’s engagement party.

Classic lashes are the perfect choice for people with:

  • Long eyelashes

  • Naturally thick eyelashes

How are classic lashes applied?

Our lash artists apply classic eyelash extensions at the ratio of 1:1. What this means is that we apply one eyelash extension per one natural lash. The 1:1 ratio fills the lash line, creating an overall natural, yet gorgeous, appearance.

We also consider eyelash extension thickness. For clients who want a classic style, we use extensions between 0.10 mm - 0.12 mm. If you have naturally strong and thick lashes, we might use thicker extensions.

All our classic applications include a consultation to determine the natural eyelashes’ condition. We never want to apply extensions that are too thick or go beyond what your natural lashes can support.

So, now that we got the basics out of the way, let’s do a quick overview of the advantages of classic eyelash extensions.

Quickest application: Since our experienced lash artists only apply one extension per natural lash, you get in and out faster.

Budget-friendly: Classic sets use fewer extensions, which means you pay less.

Great for daily wear: The natural look and feel of classic extensions make them a great choice for every day.

Hybrid Eyelash Extensions: Healthiest Option for Sparse Lashes with a Hint of Drama

Hybrid eyelash extensions aren’t overly dramatic, but they’re not afraid to stir the pot either. Clients who desire a more dramatic look than classic lashes but aren’t ready for the drama that volume lashes bring to the party, choose hybrid extensions that include classic and volume lashes.

Hybrid extensions let you get a customized look that’s all you! They’re perfect for clients with:

  • Moderately long lashes

  • Healthy lashes

  • Thin or weak lashes

What do I need to know about the hybrid extension application?

The application process is like the classic application technique with exceptions made to ratio and thickness. The classic application uses a 1:1 ratio and volume lashes use a ratio of 1: many.

Our lash artists use a customized ratio when applying hybrid extensions based on the look the client wants.

For example, some clients want their lashes fluffier in the middle to create an open-eye look. Or they want the corners more voluminous than the rest of the lash line to taper and contour the eye. To achieve more volume, the lash artist would apply more than one extension to each lash in these areas. Typically, hybrid lashes are 50-70% volume and 30% classic.

Thickness levels vary with hybrid applications too. The hybrid lash set might include thicknesses from 0.07 mm - 0.15 mm for the classic lashes and 0.03 mm - 0.05 mm for the volume lashes.

Hybrid lash sets stand apart from the crowd and offer the following advantages.

Best of both worlds: Get the volume and length you want in one treatment.

Ideal for clients with lash issues: Hybrid lashes are by far the healthiest option for clients who have thin, sparse, or weak leashes and crave a dramatic look.

A good way to upgrade from classic lashes: If classic lashes aren’t doing it for you, the next step is hybrid lashes. Get the volume you want without going too bold.

Give Your New Lashes Some TLC

You’ve spent time choosing the right style and budget for your new lashes. Now it’s time to care for them. Treating your lashes with the best TLC keeps them looking their best for longer.

The Don’ts:

  • Don’t get them wet for a full 24 hours

  • Don’t curl them

  • Don’t wear mascara

  • Don’t rub your eyes

  • Don’t use cleansers or oil-based products

That’s a lot of don’ts, so let us tell you what we want you to do. We want you to walk out of The Color Room in LOVE with your new lashes.

Of course, we don’t think that will be a problem. Our talented lash artists want you to leave with your new lashes feeling like the queen you are!
